When you leave the ship for the day you usually have stuff to take with you; beach towel, change of clothes, bottle of water, etc. While you need something to carry all of the above, you might not want to carry your usual airline carry-on for various reasons, yet you do not want to pack something that will take-up a lot of space in your luggage.
